Advanced Lino - Reduction Cut at Work-Shop Brisbane

DSC00686_Working_Scale.jpg

This session builds on what you’ve learned in the introduction to linocut class with one method of building and image in several colours from a single block! In this 3 hour workshop, we will show how to plan out an image including backgrounds, borders, vignettes, and ultimately the key layers with a single block. Once learned, this versatile and accessible technique can be applied to the creation of artist’s books, textile design, poster design and limited edition prints.

This class will cover carving out your image from a Silk Cut plate, making decisions about the sequence of cuts and colours, and hand-printing your first multi-colour image.

Please note: at this time we are offering this workshop to those who have taken our lino or woodcut printmaking basics workshops. If you have had similar experience and want to book in, please contact us through info@greyhandpress.com to make sure we’re all on the same page!

What you'll get

  • All materials needed to produce your own prints, including two 10 x 10 cm linoblocks.
  • Resource and instruction sheet

What to bring

  • A simple image (photo or sketch) to turn into a print, or be ready to freehand on the day! (The simpler the better! This workshop is about getting used to breaking the image apart and will rely on a limited palette of colours.)
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting ink on

Image Transfer Printmaking at Work-Shop Brisbane

photo_2018-03-08_14-15-54.jpg

In this workshop you will learn how to create excellent image transfers from a paper matrix. Solvent transfer lets you release the image from a photocopy to anything smooth and receptive – fine art papers, wood, and even some fabrics!

The capabilities of the copy machine will be explored by using drawings, photographs, and sketchbook imagery to create your paper plate. The toner can be released onto paper, wood, smooth fabrics, or metal plates, for starters. Learn how to apply these techniques with an etching press and methods for application by hand.

Please contact instructor regarding any sensitivities to mineral turps, acetone, eucalyptus oil, or xylene, which may be used in small quantities during the workshop.

Provided:

  • A range of transfer imagery to choose from
  • One on one advise from a highly trained printmaker
  • A folio of prints made by you!

Bring with:

  • Please bring your own imagery you want to use in your transfer print.  Must be a print out from a toner printer (not inkjet)  ie photocopier, toner printer. Officeworks can help with this!
  • Transfer imagery must be A5 size or smaller
