Lithography is a unique printmaking medium that is based on the principle that oil and water repel one another. Unlike many other printmaking mediums, lithography is a chemical process, which incorporates direct drawing techniques to produce beautiful prints with a unique aesthetic.
This term-long class is designed as an introduction to the lithography medium, and would suit those who are yet to explore the world of lithography, would like a refresher course, or have worked with aluminium plates and are keen to discover the beauty of stones. Over the course of 8 weeks, we will explore the lithography process from start to finish, from drawing and processing, to printing and editioning.
Some materials will be provided, but participants will be expected to supply their own paper. A list of materials and suggestions will be sent out in advance.
PLEASE NOTE: stone lithography is a heavily physical medium, and participants will be required to move and lift heavy objects, perform repetitive movements, and operate hand-driven presses. If you have any physical limitations or are unsure of what is involved, please contact us prior to signing up so we can work through options together. We will also be running an Aluminium Plate Lithography course which is less physically demanding.
Date: Friday 3 May — Friday 21 June (8 Weeks), 9:30am — 1:30pm
Location: Grey Hand Press, 28/16 Crockford Street, Northgate 4013
